The Kaiser's High Seas Fleet: The Great War at Sea 1914–18
The Kaiser's High Seas Fleet: The Great War at Sea 1914–18 is a strategic naval wargame that recreates the struggle for command of the seas during the First World War. Inspired by John Edwards' classic War at Sea system, this updated edition refines the original mechanics while introducing improved historical accuracy, enhanced components, and streamlined gameplay. Taking command of either the Central Powers or the Entente, players must deploy powerful dreadnought fleets, wage submarine campaigns, and fight for control of vital sea zones.
Combining accessible rules with meaningful strategic decisions, The Kaiser's High Seas Fleet captures the unique nature of First World War naval warfare, where preserving your battle fleet could be just as important as winning decisive engagements.

About the Game:
In The Kaiser's High Seas Fleet, one player commands the Central Powers, consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, while the opposing player leads the Entente fleets of Great Britain, France, Italy, Russia, and eventually the United States. Portugal and Greece remain neutral, providing limited docking and repair facilities that can influence naval operations throughout the campaign.
Rather than focusing on constant fleet destruction, the game reflects the historical realities of World War I naval warfare. Massive dreadnoughts dominate the oceans, but players must carefully decide when to risk these valuable ships in battle. Control of key sea areas earns Victory Points, while Germany's U-Boat campaign steadily pressures Allied merchant shipping and adds another important strategic dimension to the conflict.
Naval engagements have been designed to mirror historical battles such as Jutland, where even the largest clashes rarely resulted in catastrophic fleet losses. Older pre-dreadnought battleships are included but have appropriately reduced effectiveness, highlighting the rapid evolution of naval technology during the early twentieth century.
Throughout the war, players must balance aggressive operations with long-term preservation of their fleets. Every turn presents new opportunities to seize strategic waters, disrupt enemy plans, and gradually build the Victory Point advantage needed to secure overall success by the end of the campaign.
