Stalingrad ’42 2nd Edition & Little Saturn/Winter Storm

£75.00

Stalingrad ’42 – 2nd Edition is a division-level wargame covering the massive Axis summer offensive of 1942 towards Stalingrad and the Caucasus, and the Soviet counteroffensives that followed.

Beginning in the summer of 1942, Axis armies pushed deep into Soviet territory, reaching the Volga at Stalingrad and advancing towards the Caucasus Mountains. What initially appeared to be another major German success gradually became a far more difficult campaign as Soviet resistance strengthened. In November, the Red Army launched its counteroffensive, surrounding the German 6th Army at Stalingrad and turning the campaign into one of the decisive struggles of the Second World War.

Command the Campaign in Southern Russia

Stalingrad ’42 gives players command of the major Axis and Soviet formations involved in this six-month campaign. Units represent divisions, brigades and regiments, while the large operational map area allows players to manage offensives across an enormous stretch of the Eastern Front.

The system shares its foundations with Ukraine ’43, while introducing rules specifically designed to capture the character of the 1942 campaign. These include Blitzkrieg warfare, offensive planning, sea movement, leaders, city battles and hidden Soviet buildup.

With relatively low counter density for a campaign of this scale, the emphasis remains on operational decisions rather than excessive unit management. Where you concentrate your forces, when you launch an offensive and which objectives you pursue can have consequences many turns later.

Multiple Scenarios

The game provides several ways to explore the campaign, from shorter introductory situations to the complete struggle from June through December 1942. Scenarios cover Case Blue, Operation Uranus, the Battle of the Caucasus and the full campaign.

The 2nd Edition also incorporates Little Saturn/Winter Storm, extending the action beyond the original campaign. This additional scenario covers 14 December 1942 to 5 February 1943, beginning as Soviet forces attack the Italians along the Don while Field Marshal Manstein's Operation Winter Storm attempts to relieve the surrounded forces at Stalingrad.

2nd Edition

This edition retains the established Stalingrad ’42 game system while correcting known errata and bringing the Little Saturn/Winter Storm expansion material into the box. This includes the additional units, setup and reinforcement material needed for the expanded campaign coverage.
