Skies Above the Reich (2024, 2nd Printing)
Skies Above the Reich (2024, 2nd Printing) is a solitaire World War II air combat game that places you in command of a Luftwaffe squadron defending Germany against the growing daylight bombing campaign of the United States Army Air Forces. Leading formations of Bf 109 fighters, you must intercept and disrupt heavily defended bomber streams while preserving your limited pool of experienced pilots.
Spanning the critical years from late 1942 through early 1945, the game recreates the escalating air war over Europe through a series of linked missions and campaigns. As American bomber formations grow larger and better protected, your squadron must adapt, upgrade equipment, and survive against increasingly difficult odds.

About the game:
Every mission begins with selecting pilots and preparing your squadron for the coming raid. Aircraft can be equipped with specialised upgrades such as gun pods, rockets, or additional armour, while support aircraft may be assigned to strengthen your interception efforts. Your objective is simple but challenging: break apart the bomber formations and inflict as much damage as possible before they reach their targets.
Time is always working against you. Heavy bomber formations are dangerous opponents, protected by concentrated defensive fire and, later in the war, increasingly effective fighter escorts. Every attack run requires careful planning, as losses suffered today may weaken your ability to fight tomorrow.
The heart of the game lies in its campaign system. Veteran pilots gain valuable experience and can develop into aces, but casualties and injuries steadily reduce your squadron's effectiveness. Replacements arrive with little combat experience, forcing you to balance immediate success against long-term survival.
The game follows the changing fortunes of the air war through a series of historical seasons. Early campaigns feature smaller formations and different tactical challenges, while later periods introduce stronger bomber defences and more dangerous escort fighters. As conditions evolve, players must continuously adapt their strategy to keep their squadron operational.
Advanced rules introduce pursuit missions, allowing fighters to chase damaged bombers that have fallen out of formation, adding another layer of tactical decision-making and historical flavour.
