About the Game:
Silent Victory: U.S. Submarines in the Pacific, 1941–45 (3rd Printing) recreates the American submarine campaign against Japan during the Second World War. Taking command of one of the U.S. Navy's fleet submarines, your objective is to sink enemy shipping, complete increasingly dangerous patrols, and develop your captain and crew into an elite fighting force while surviving long enough to return to base.
As the war progresses, patrol zones expand across the Pacific, taking you from the Philippines and Java Sea to Midway, the Solomons, the Marianas, the China Sea, and eventually the waters surrounding the Japanese home islands. Enemy defences become stronger as Japanese anti-submarine tactics improve, forcing you to balance aggression with survival throughout every patrol.
Each encounter presents difficult tactical choices. Deciding whether to close the range, attack on the surface at night, fire additional torpedo salvos, shadow a convoy for another strike, or evade determined escorts can mean the difference between success and disaster. Damage to your submarine affects virtually every aspect of the mission, including flooding, engines, batteries, periscopes, torpedo systems, radio equipment, crew injuries, and more.
Historical immersion is one of the game's greatest strengths. More than 720 real merchant ships, tankers, submarines, warships, and capital ships appear throughout the campaign, while special missions and random events ensure that every patrol unfolds differently. Successful commanders earn promotions, medals, and increasingly challenging assignments as their reputation grows.
