Sensuikan: Japanese Fleet Submarines 1941–45
Sensuikan: Japanese Fleet Submarines 1941–45 is a solitaire, tactical-level wargame that places you in command of a Japanese fleet submarine during World War II. From the opening stages of the Pacific conflict through to 1945, you’ll carry out missions assigned by higher command while trying to survive increasingly dangerous patrols.
Rather than focusing solely on sinking enemy shipping, the game emphasises mission objectives, reconnaissance, and support operations, reflecting the historical role of Japanese submarines during the war.
This game includes:
2 Counter sheets of 9/16" units
9 Submarine Display Mats (double-sided))
14 Player Aid Cards (double-sided)
1 Player Aid Card (single-sided)
1 Operational Map
Rules Booklet
Patrol Log Sheet
2 6-sided dice (D6)
2 10-sided dice (D10)
1 20-sided dice
Key features:
Designed primarily for solo play
Command one of 17 different submarine classes
Mission-focused gameplay rather than pure combat
Crew progression and commander development system
Modular content including aircraft, midget submarine, and special weapons options
Historical events system tracking the progress of the war
About the game:
You begin by selecting a submarine class and setting out on patrol, completing missions assigned by command. Each patrol unfolds through a structured sequence of events, with random encounters and evolving objectives shaping your experience.
As the war progresses, survival becomes more difficult, requiring careful decision-making and risk management. Your crew and commander improve over time, gaining skills and recognition, but every mission carries the risk of not returning.
Special modules introduce additional capabilities depending on your submarine, such as aircraft operations or specialised attack options, adding variety to each playthrough.
The game also incorporates a broader war progression system, where major events can influence your missions and create new challenges. With its balance of historical detail and accessible gameplay, Sensuikan offers a deep and immersive solo experience.
