North Africa '41 (2023) - The Western Desert, March to December 1941
North Africa '41 is an operational-level wargame covering the desert campaign fought between Axis and Allied forces from March to December 1941. Beginning with Erwin Rommel's arrival in North Africa, the game follows a dramatic series of offensives and counteroffensives across Libya and Egypt, culminating in Operation Crusader and the relief of Tobruk.
Using the proven system found in GMT's acclaimed Normandy '44 and Holland '44, the game combines straightforward mechanics with historically rich decision-making. Players must manage supply lines, troop quality, armoured warfare, artillery support, command capabilities, and scarce strategic resources while attempting to gain the initiative across the vast Western Desert.
The campaign features many of the key operations of 1941, including the Axis advance across Cyrenaica, the defence of Tobruk, Operations Brevity and Battleaxe, and the large-scale Allied offensive that eventually pushed Axis forces back toward El Agheila. Historical events, resource management, convoy operations, and specialised units add depth while maintaining a smooth and engaging gameplay experience.

About the Game:
The North African campaign of 1941 was defined by mobility, logistics, and the constant struggle for control of vital ports and supply routes. As the Axis player, you must exploit Rommel's aggressive leadership and superior tactical doctrine while overcoming increasingly difficult supply challenges. As the Allied player, you must delay enemy advances, reinforce key positions, and eventually launch counteroffensives capable of turning the tide.
Unlike many World War II campaigns, success in the desert depended as much on fuel, transport, and supply as on battlefield victories. Every advance stretches supply lines further, creating difficult choices between maintaining momentum and preserving strength for future operations.
The game includes three major scenarios, allowing players to explore different phases of the campaign:
Enter Rommel (March–June 1941)
Campaign Game (March–December 1941)
Crusader (November–December 1941)
Whether recreating historical operations or exploring alternative strategies, North Africa '41 offers a detailed and highly replayable examination of one of the most important campaigns of the Second World War.
