62 cards
105 1" counters
77 circular tokens
24-page rulebook
5 six-sided dice
Key features:
Solitaire tactical defence gameplay
Based on a unique historical battle in May 1945
Turn-based system with clear phases and decision points
Strong emphasis on resource management and positioning
Scoring system based on survival and defence effectiveness
About the game:
In Castle Itter, you command the defenders during the events of 5 May 1945, holding the castle from early morning through to the arrival of relief forces. Your objective is to survive the assault by preventing enemy units from breaching the castle while managing your limited actions each turn.
Gameplay is divided into two distinct phases. During the Defender Phase, you allocate a set number of actions across your units, choosing when to attack, reposition, recover, or use special abilities. Each unit can only act once per turn, so prioritisation is critical.
In the opposing phase, enemy cards are revealed and resolved, introducing attacks, disruptions, and reinforcements. These events create constant pressure and require you to adapt your strategy as the situation evolves.
Victory is determined by how effectively you hold out. You earn points for surviving defenders while being penalised for enemy units that remain on the board. The game ends when the enemy deck is depleted or relief forces arrive, making every decision along the way important.
With a straightforward structure but meaningful tactical choices, Castle Itter delivers a focused and engaging solitaire experience built around a remarkable historical event.
