Ardennes '44 (2025, 4th Edition) - The Battle of the Bulge
Ardennes '44 (4th Edition) - The Battle of the Bulge is a detailed operational-level wargame covering the largest and final major German offensive on the Western Front during World War II. Beginning on 16 December 1944, players command either the German forces attempting to break through Allied lines and reach Antwerp, or the Allied armies fighting to contain and defeat the offensive in the forests of the Ardennes.
Designed by acclaimed wargame designer Mark Simonitch, Ardennes '44 recreates the campaign with an accurate order of battle, historically researched map, and a system that balances realism with smooth gameplay. German players must exploit opportunities, manage limited resources, and maintain momentum, while Allied players fight delaying actions, defend key crossroads, and organise a determined response.
The game covers the critical period from 16–26 December 1944 and includes both the full campaign and shorter scenarios focusing on the opening stages of the offensive. Historical events, weather conditions, road congestion, and engineering operations all play important roles in shaping the battlefield.
This game includes:
2 Map sheets (Total Size 30" x 37")
3 Counter sheets (570 Full-Colour 9/16" Counters)
1 Rules Booklet
1 Play Book
2 Reinforcement Cards
1 Turn Record Track
2 Identical CRT/TEC Player Aid Cards
2 Six-Sided Dice
Key Features:
Operational-level recreation of the Battle of the Bulge
Full campaign and shorter introductory scenarios
Historical German and Allied orders of battle
Weather effects and night turns
Air supply and artillery support systems
Traffic jams, roadblocks, and bridge operations
Armour ratings and determined attack/defence options
Historically inspired special units and formations
Suitable for both experienced wargamers and newcomers to the campaign
About the Game:
The German objective is clear: break through Allied lines, cross the Meuse River, and capture Antwerp, splitting Allied forces in two. Standing in their way are determined American defenders holding key towns, ridges, and crossroads that historically slowed the offensive and ultimately prevented a breakthrough.
Gameplay emphasises operational decision-making, timing, and manoeuvre. German players must carefully balance aggression with logistics, while Allied players buy time, establish defensive positions, and prepare reinforcements. Historical locations such as Bastogne, St. Vith, Elsenborn Ridge, and the twin villages of Krinkelt and Rocherath become focal points of the campaign.
With its accessible rules system, historical depth, and excellent replayability, Ardennes '44 (4th Edition) remains one of the most respected simulations of the Battle of the Bulge available today.
