Spruance Leader: The Cold War Fleet Combat Solitaire Strategy Game places you in command of a modern NATO naval task force operating during one of the most dangerous periods of the twentieth century. Your responsibility is to assemble an effective fleet capable of completing missions while protecting vital ships from increasingly capable Soviet naval and air threats.
Each operation begins with selecting the ships and commanders best suited to the mission. Cruisers, destroyers, frigates, helicopters, and supporting assets all have unique strengths that must be combined into a balanced task force capable of responding to multiple threats at once.
As missions unfold, Soviet submarines, surface combatants, aircraft, missiles, and torpedoes challenge your fleet from every direction. Anti-submarine warfare plays a major role, requiring careful use of sonar, helicopters, and specialised weapons to detect and eliminate enemy submarines before they can strike your most valuable vessels.
Success depends on more than simply defeating the enemy. Aircraft must be assigned to patrols and strike missions, commanders provide valuable tactical advantages, and every decision affects the survivability of your task force.
