Dungeons & Dragons: Builders of Baldur’s Gate

£55.00

Dungeons & Dragons: Builders of Baldur’s Gate is a competitive city-building strategy game for 2–4 players, set in one of the most famous cities of the Forgotten Realms. Designed by Matthew Dunstan, the game puts each player at the head of a powerful family competing to build businesses, extend their influence and gain prestige across the nine districts of Baldur’s Gate.

But building a commercial empire is only part of the challenge. Influence within the city’s major factions can be just as important, while monster attacks regularly threaten Baldur’s Gate from beyond its walls and harbour. Rivals may have to cooperate when danger strikes, but every crisis also presents an opportunity to advance your own family's ambitions.

Build Your Influence Across Baldur’s Gate

Players establish new businesses throughout the city, creating networks of buildings while spreading their presence across multiple districts. Each new development offers another opportunity to strengthen your position and increase your family's prestige.

Buildings under your control are marked with influence cubes, making it easy to see how each family's presence develops as the game progresses. Deciding where to expand and which areas are worth competing for forms an important part of building a successful strategy.

Gain the Loyalty of the Three Factions

Power in Baldur’s Gate extends beyond property and business. Players must also compete for influence with the city's three major factions: the Council of Four, the Flaming Fist, and the Thieves’ Guild.

Developing these relationships adds another layer to the competition, requiring players to balance their building plans with the wider struggle for political and social influence throughout the city.

Defend the City Against Monster Attacks

Baldur’s Gate is a prosperous city, but it is far from safe. Groups of monsters can attack from the harbour or threaten the outer walls, creating crises that affect everyone around the table.

When the city comes under attack, competing families may need to form temporary alliances to deal with the immediate danger. Cooperation does not mean putting rivalries aside for long, however. Each family will be looking for ways to turn the crisis to its own advantage and emerge in a stronger position.

Special keeps, gates and watchtowers are represented by three-dimensional pieces rather than standard tiles. These structures include spaces for influence cubes, allowing control of important locations to remain clearly visible while adding height and character to the developing city.

As businesses are established and defensive structures appear around the board, players can watch their version of Baldur’s Gate take shape over the course of the game.
